Homemade Deep Fried Oreos
I was not sure if I was ready to venture into the world of deep fried Oreos or not. I typically do not eat a ton of fried food. But they are something that I had at a beach one year while on vacation with my husband.
Honestly, I had not really thought about them since then.
Whenever I make a new recipe, I always make sure that my kids will eat the food. And these funnel cake deep fried Oreos I did not need to ask twice. They were happy to be willing participants in this adventure.
While I had the buy in, I went ahead and whipped this up. Needless to say, they absolutely loved them.
My daughter had never had them. However, my son first had deep fried Oreos at Boy Scout camp. And he said they were good, but the dough was just regular fried dough. Not a lot of flavor in them.
Absolutely nothing wrong with fried dough, but I know where this was going.
Of course, he asked me if I would be able to give the batter a better flavor, and of course, I am always happy to zhuzh it up a bit.
I was testing a bunch of different recipes and settled on two. You will find both recipes in this post.
We all love funnel cake so this seemed like a happy marriage for the two main ingredients. This will be the main recipe for the post.
The second recipe will be a Pumpkin Cinnamon Deep Fried Oreo, and you will find that below.

How To Make Fried Oreos:
As I mentioned earlier, these are simple to make. In fact, your middle schoolers and teens who can cook can make them as well. We always make sure to supervise them, just in case.
These will be made in a frying pan on the stove top. However, you can make them in a deep fryer if you have one.
- You will want to put your pan over medium low heat on your stove top.
- Make your buttermilk pancake batter. (You can use your favorite store bought or make your own)
- Dip the Oreo into the batter. Be sure you release the cookie away from you
- Fry for about 10 – 15 seconds per side. Or until golden brown.
- Place the fried Oreo on a paper towel lined plate and allow to cool completely
- Top with powdered sugar.

Make sure to test your oil. You will want to make sure that it is hot. If you do not have a candy thermometer you can use the handle of your wooden spoon. If it bubbles it is ready.
Can I Add Food Coloring To The Pancake Batter?
Yes! And how fun would that be? You could do colors for every holiday, birthday party, or just because.
I would recommend gel food coloring, since liquid may thin out the batter too much.
How far in advance can I make these?
You can make the batter the day before if you like. Just be sure to place it in the fridge covered.
Also if you would like to fry them all up they do keep for about one week in an air tight container.
