Homemade Sloppy Joes were always a favorite of mine growing up. My mom would always buy a can and I would get so excited when she made it for dinner. So of course I made it for my kids when they were younger.
But, sometimes you don’t have a can on hand and don’t want to run to the store to get it. So, we came up with a recipe for those times. We also make this a lot when we are camping.

You do want to make sure that you choose beef. Typically I get a 85/15 which is perfect and then I can just add in about ½ tablespoons of oil. But if you go with a leaner meat like chicken, turkey or 93/7 beef, please be sure to add in 1 tablespoon of oil. This way the meat has enough fat in it which aids in the flavor.
We like to have our sloppy joes with a side of corn, a nice salad and either mashed potatoes, or tater tots.
That’s it, it is simple to make and have ready very quickly and the kids will love it, so will the adults. This is one of our most requested recipes when we did our cooking live show.
